Suffolk Yearlings

Who we are

Mark Shelden owned his first sheep at age 6. His father was a consignment buyer for Ontario Livestock a saleyard in Ontario, Oregon. Shelden said he was there every chance he had, helping unload small animals and dairy cattle. That’s where he fell in love with Suffolk sheep.

He bought his first registered Suffolk ewes at age 15 with Warfield breeding, and have had them ever since.

"Our motto is Breeding Tough, Dependable, Hardy Suffolk Range Rams!"

Shelden remarks, “I enjoy seeing great sheep, meeting people and the barbecue!” at the Idaho State Ram Sale.

Breeding goals

Shelden’s breeding goal is to raise production-style Suffolks. At first, Shelden explored different approaches to raising sheep, but didn’t find success. Between working in town and his 30 years of coaching high school basketball, his ewes were on their own from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. during lambing time.

This is when Shelden established a profound approach to raising his rams, “We breed for a complete sheep with great mothering abilities and longevity.”
